August 2017.

To my dear fellow Louisiana School Nurses,

I am excited that school is getting ready to begin again!   My hope for each of you is that your school year will be filled with joy, positive experiences, enrichment, and personal fulfillment.

Each of you has the opportunity to be a positive influence on the students and staff under your care.  You control how you choose to advocate for school health, your students, and your own personal job satisfaction.

My school, DeRidder High, has a saying which I appreciate, "Make it a great day or not – the  choice is yours."  We always have room to improve in the various aspects of our lives.  Change is inevitable, a truth which can be more difficult for some.  Some of you embrace change.  The books Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson, MD, and The Shark and the Goldfish by Jon Gordon, are both excellent motivational books which help those struggling with change to deal with it and thrive.  I recommend these short, but packed full of motivation, books.

We must be prepared for change.  In Who Moved My Cheese” my favorite “handwriting on the wall” is “Enjoy Change!  Savor The Adventure And Enjoy The Taste Of New Cheese!”  My favorites in The Shark and the Goldfish are “Focus on the opportunity, not the challenge,” “Your belief must be greater than the chorus of negativity,” and “Trust in the ocean of abundance and expect success.”

I believe in you, the School Nurses of Louisiana!!!  Best wishes for a magnificent school year while we all strive for excellence!
